    24bit with compressed audio

Is it worth it to purchase a 24bit sound card when you are using a lossy compressed audio format (such as mp3 or ogg) on a carputer? Would the extra sound quality of the card be realized or wasted?

depends on the rest (amps, speakers), but generally, YES it will make a huge difference even with mp3s (if they have good encoding)

Certainly 24bit vs. 16bit will matter if you plan on playing DVD discs on your carputer. You can even play DVD-Audio if you'd like! And why not? It is only marginally more expensive for a 24bit sound card and you will have other advantages that come with a higher end soundcard too such as increased S/N ratio.
