I see things here are moving along. I want to say that though i am "informed" i am in now way responsible for this project.

All of the credit should go to first and formost Seth and then to Rando for helping out with his expertice. There are probably others helping out but THese two are really making it happen.

I have just been a bouncing board for ideas.

Keep up the good work I hope your supplier didn't ship with Camel Express.

Doh, I've been outed! Wouldn't you know when I finally have something (expertice ??) it turns out be something that is nothing at all.

For those of you worrying how I2c fits in with the KISS principal, rest assured that's exactly what we're doing with this project. The radio ICs use I2c for their control information so it's a necessary part of the solution.

The primary goal of this project is to produce a radio that first and foremost compares in reception quality to a factory or aftermarket HU. Having selected our tuner ICs, it now makes sense to confirm the reception quality before continuing on. This can be done using the native M10k I2C interface. If the results are promising, the solution will be available immediately for M10k users or others with access to an I2c interface (ie a large chunk of the carpc community gets happy right away). Only then will it make sense to consider adding a USB interface for control and RDS, on-board micro-controller, optimizing analog outputs to standard line-out levels, etc.

Our plan is to make this as simple as possible yet useful to the widest possible user base. To keep the development and final build cost down, it makes sense to break the development up into phases. Here is rough idea of how things are shaping up. None of this is set in stone. It's just to give you an idea of what we're thinking about.

Phase 1: Radio with I2C control interface and RS232 for RDS. I2C driver for M10k and minimal stand-alone front end application. Schematics and source made public.

Phase 2: Radio with USB control interface and RS232 for RDS. USB driver and minimal stand-alone front end application. Schematics and source made public.

Phase 3: Radio with USB interface for control and RDS (possible extended features: relay control, analog/digital I/O lines, etc. -- just thinking out loud here). USB driver and integration into one or more of the popular carpc player/shells. Schamatics and source made public.

OK guys listen. I've talked to Zip-Lock regarding this thread and we agreed to lock it and let it get burried in the Sands of Time . The last month a lot of ideas have been thrown to the table and we examined each one carefully. We finally settled to a solution which balances all the parameters we've set from the begining. Because this solution is very far from where we started I believe this thread does not anymore serve it's purpose. It's huge and confusing.
So we'll just let it go and start a new one more focused to the final design. That will help people to keep track of the progress and help us to catch feedback more easilly.
So if you see this thread locked don't think that something bad happend.
The parts are on their way from China, hope they be here soon.
    Until then take care everyone.

    Thanks

EDIT: Almost forgot....Rando is da man...
