USB FM/AM tuner with RDS/RBDS

That would be nice if it went digital audio to the computer instead of through a line in

Sounds like a cool idea ... I think many of us have dreamed/hoped for something like this. Here is a quick list of features.

- Support for diversity antennas with impedance matched inputs and standard car radio connectors. (assuming there are any standards)
- Digital audio through USB
- Analog audio output
- Control and Data output via USB
- Drivers to map control and data ports to virtual serial interfaces. This would allow custom code to be easily created.
- Data Output to include (in addition to the radio data features discussed)
* Current Station / Band
* Signal Strength or Quality metric????
* Stereo/Mono indicator
- Control Input to include
* Set Band / Station
* Search for Station Up/Down on current Band
* Mute (could be in software)
* Volume Up/Down (could be in software)
* Power Off / Standby...go into low current mode but remember other settings (maybe partially supported by software)

I think randio summed up a lot of it, sounds good if you can make something like this I don’t know who wouldn’t buy one that was making a car pc. Everyone has been waiting and this sounds like it could be what we are all waiting for

I'll discuss this with the engineer who is designing the device and I'll come back to you guys ASAP.
I'm pretty sure that the tuner chip provides analog audio output and not digital but I'll double check and I'll post.

I want at least 5 of these - may I also say that I tried to start a tread like this a couple of weeks ago (not so successful, though

), so I'm very much in favour of trying to make this happen.

The only thing is that you need someone (you?) to design the circuit for the radio and have it put into production with one of the hardware factories (Taiwan?) somewhere...Any plans?

I'm just thinking about a way to contribute...hmmm...

Any indications of size? Since I would very much like to build it into a smallest possible housing and use internal USB connectors in the board to connect it.

I know this is possible to achieve, just look at this baby from Creative:
