y would you want to?
DOes anyone know if there is a special trick to reformatting a 80GB External HD? It's NTFS and I want it FAT32, but when I tried toreformatt it said the drive was too big. Can any one help????
Search Windows Help and Support (Start -> Help and Support) for Convert to FAT32.
You can't do this. Once it's NTFS that's it unless you use another app.Originally Posted by stillatin6
Have you tried to FDisk it? If not fdisk it and blow the partition away and start from scratch instead of trying to reformat it.
You need Windows 98 or ME to make/format a partition larger than 30GB as FAT32. XP is limited to making 30GB FAT32 partitions for some reason.
Heed Defiler, from Dos run "FDISK (drive letter):". I would personally leave it as NTFS, its better, espically with larger drives (80 gig +)
ya, why would you want to?Originally Posted by PaPP

NTFS has built in security features along with it's more effiecient (sp?) file system.
It does take special tools to get at the data (DOS boot disk does not work) if you have an OS level issue.
