car pc, that was my delima and i chose car pc, i think its a cheaper more versitle option. If you do go for AVIC, we sell it for $1500, let me know.
would you rather build your own carPC, or would you buy the new avic n1?
i know the cons and pros of the PC "more flexible, upgradeable," yada yada.
but i guess the main question is which is more reliable? with custom PCs, it seem like it would crash here and there (using the via MBs). do you really want to put up with the headache w pcs?
pls give me your opinions.

I think unreliability in a PC comes from 1 of 2 things. Either trying to do things that the AVIC N1 doesn't do and therefore will have more problems since it is feature that probably hasn't been well developed for in car use. Or things are done on a budget and not putting reliable hardware in the first place. Crashing isn't really a problem with a carputer if you have it setup properly. Setting up a carputer is easy to do if you put as much money into it as you would to buy an AVIC N1.
The only real advantage that I think the AVIC has is that the software interface for it is a lot more usable and integrated then anything yet available for the PC.

My friend with a AVIC N1 is jealous of my car-pc.
I don't know if that helps you at all. Plus I built my PC for less than half of what he paid for his headunit.
Also, as far as crashing, I've not had my system crash once since installing it in the car. (knock on wood)
