    Unhappy IDE problems

Okey I had my 4 gig drive set as master and my 20 gig drive set as slave both on ide0 and i was getting boot times of 2 minutes+.

I then put my 20gig no ide1 and my 4gig (master w/ boot) on ide0 and it booted in 30 seconds.

Anyone any ideas how i can keep them on the same cable and not have stupid boot times and the like?

It was slow on the windows part of the boot, splash screens.. not bios.

I really want at least 2 other free ide chans so thats why i want to fix this now before any more probs occur.

Check the manufacturer's site for these drives. They may be incompatible or need special jumpering.

Check to see if windows is running the drives in compatibility mode when both are on the same IDE channel. That would definitely cause a slowdown. Possible reasons? Maybe DMA is enabled on a drive that doesn't support it (the 4 gigger). I'm sure there are others that escape me at the moment.
