    Question Remote vs Keypad

I've been having a hell of a time deciding if I should get a keypad or a remote for my system. The keypad will most likely be cheaper and easier to setup, however I just think that it would be ugly in my car. Is there any other type of keypad that can be used?

I have a keypad velcroed to my emergency brake and it works great. The remotes are pretty cool but hard to set up if you don't know how to build the receiver. If you're looking for something sleek and not too bulky, get a keypad with laptop-type keys. (I had one but the plug was some Compaq proprietory crap that I couldn't use.) They are very thin and have that cool laptop click sound and the cord keeps it from getting lost under the seat (those thin little remotes disappear easily).

I disagree with Guter on this matter, I have had a keypad for that past 4 months and I am sick of it. I am getting the IRMan reciever that works with almost any universal remotes and it isnt that hard at all to setup. It runs on winamp with a plugin. Plus you can get a remote that has a backlight so you can see the #'s in the dark. Its not even that much more expensive.

My only concern with the remote is that I am unsure if it will work in DOS. I would really prefer the load time of DOS over win98.

    Cool

I have the X-10 universal remote, with the Winamp plugin. I must say it kicks *** to walk around my campsite in the desert, and be able to control the music! If you are using MPXF for DOS, there is a program that will allow you to use either the IRman or the X-10 remote. I found the link for it on one of the sites listed in the MP3Car.com webring. If you can't find it, I think I still have the zipped version, that I could e-mail out.

    Thumbs down

I have the X-10, and I hate it. When it works its great. But for some reason, it only works flawlessly when nobody's in the car. If your using winamp, the plugin (Ampapod) adds an extra 5-15 seconds to your startup time.
