    What motherboard?

I am making a new carputer and I need your advice on the motherboard to get. Should i get some of the used ones like the M10000 on the classified sections? Should I just buy a ready-to-go complete system instead of starting from scratch. Also, I checked mini-itx.com and i found several motherboards. I have the needed money to get something good, so what do you recommend. Is the new MII12000 the best motherboard out there? If not let me know what will be the best thing I can get to begin. I want something fast and that wont give me problems. THank for all your help.

Can I recommend the search button to you.

These forums are an opportunity for us all to share our discoveries rather than simply tell you what you should buy. The fact that you've just joined and started posting (and double posting) questions like this one would indicate that you haven't spent the time to read up and evaluate the information that is already here.

There is a Newbie forum that you may have missed. Use it! It's there for people like you!

    Other than that - welcome!

It's all depend on what you need/want to run. I am not sure abot a M10K, but I choose a Micro ATX with a Althon Mobole CPU Simply because I don't know what software I will be using in the future. As you may know, each year, new software coming out and they require more processing power.
I have test a mATX with Althon XP-M 2500 with a HD, CDROM works fine with a 150W PSU.
mATX Mobo with an Althon XP-M 2500 is in the same price range as VIa M10k.

The only thing you really need a fast motherboard for is DivX playback. If you are only playing back mp3s, DVDs and mpeg-2 videos, then an M10000 should be fine. If you want to play DivX files and you have the money, then get the MII12000 or even an EPIA-P4 (which will provide more power than you will ever need but is the same size as the M10000 boards). However, all these boards will give you problems with both sound (audio quality is poor) and video (mainly with getting native video modes to work).

EDIT: I just saw MatrixPC's post. If you have the space, then I would follow his advice regarding the mobile athlon + mATX combo.

I dont have much space, but I think I can make some. Is the micro ATX bigger in dimensions than EPIA's and does it work the same or even better? I do have a couple DivX and some Mpeg-2's.One more thing, How bad of a sound will I get with these kind of boards, and whats the deal with the native video modes playback? Dont mean to ask much, but I really want quality in my video files. THanks a bunch
