    archos 320 media player

anyone have experience with the archos 320 media player?

looks like it might be a good alternative to a full blown car PC

I used to have the jukebox multimedia 20. Which is just an smaller earlier version of the 320 that doesn't have realtime recording. i had it connected to a bigger 5.6" screen. Anyways that was my first "carputer". It had 3 major flaws.

    1. you had to reencode all the video to divx 320x240 (more or less)

    2. No GPS

    3. At the time i had mine there was no car charger for it.
Carputer: 2.8Ghz P4, 512 RAM, 120gb HDD, WIFI, TV tuner, CDRW/DVDROM, Slot load DVD in front.
Screen: Lilliput 7" touchscreen (Custom made Carbon Fiber Screen Enclosure)
    S2000 Carputer

i looked at it before i joined the board.....re encoding my vids to divx wasnt something i was looking forward to....but if your computer has a video out plug you could run them straight into the archos(sadly at real time since it does real time recording) and unless it had a matching on screen display thru its video out plug navigating that 5 inch screen while driving could be a little hairy but for what it is i still like it

not really into the watching of DVDs in the car
    id die
    others would die
    its generally a bad idea

my thinking is that it would make a good mp3 jukebox with a large enough screen that it would be navigateable in a car

after messing around with ipod, nomads etc the tiny little screens and interfaces just arent practicle in a car
if i want to navigate my 60-80GB of music its just not an option while driving

im open to any other large screen or easy to navigate MP3 player
it must be hard drive based
    im sick of cds
    ives destroyed many many cds
    and im sick of them
    no DVD either

just want a mp3 jukebox Not so intrested in gps, divx etc
    just music

    ideas?

My goal is to have something similar... most likely just a cheap Pentium MMX PC with DOS and MPXPlay loaded... and i also have a 2x20 lcd that i should be able to use to navigate ...there are also frontends for MPXPlay ..
I havent mine together yet... but im gonna give it a go eventually...

I dont have the money for touchscreens, gps, etc.. so i figure DOS will be the fastest , most reliable OS for just MP3...
