Carputer wont boot up after unplugging HD

Guys I disconnected the HD to access some power pins, but I booted the carputer up be accident with it unplugged, now it wont boot. I cant remember the exact wording but it asks for me to insert a bootable media. You should be able to disconnect HD's without this happening right??

Go figure, happens right when I get my WIFI attenna

If it was disconnected while off, and you fired up the computer with it unplugged, nothing bad will happen. Turn everything off and recheck your connections. Turn it on and it should be ok. If it is asking for boot disk or whatever that means it cant see your hard drive, you have a power or connection issue.

I got power at the connector, everything is plugged in tight. I went under the BIOS settings and set the primary Master to my HD and it listed it, which was blank, and now when I boot its says cannot find operating system?? Could this a possible bad Mobo?? Im lost guys, any one??

I would try booting off a Windows/Dos/Linux floppy or CD and trying to access the drive to see if your filesystem is still intact. Possibly just your MBR (Master Boot Record) is messed up.

Correction it actually says "error loading operating system". I tried with my winXP in but it didnt load. I guess I have to set it to boot first off the cdrom instead IDE1(where my HD is), right?? By the way thanks for the help.

Are you doing a new install? If opsys was already installed then check the hard disk pins are in tact.

Fresh install - Yes set in BIOS for CD-ROM to boot first.

Double check and they try the IDE cable.... I'd have thought it would be one of them if all was ok before.

Tried another IDE cable, samething. I cant boot from winxp cd, or off the HDD. I guess it is gonna be either the HDD or the MOBO, right??

Yep I'd be inclined to think so...
