problems - mediacar, mediaengine, soundcard.....

... life in general.....

this has really got me ****ed off. i had this thign sorted and it was working fine, then i go and add a sound card and all goes to hell....

kick off with my spec:

epia M10000
512mb ram
80gb seagate hdd
opus psu (90W)
terratec 5.1 sky sound card
lilliput 7" touchscreen
X10 media remote

cutting a long story short, started off having to install new bios to get 2nd slot on dual pci riser card recognised.... installed sound card...... mediacar threw up error upon startup (somethign about error 9 and ramblings about subscript - i also noticed the volume bar looked odd with no level markings or "notches" if you like. when you clicked okay and entered mp3 it would throw up an error that kept coming back everytime you clicked okay leaving you with the three fingered salute the only way to get out). so uninstalle dmedia car thinking it just needed reinstalling. restrted computer and it went into a bios loop..... bios booted but couldn't find an operating system and rebooted bios again and again and again. found system files corrupted so formatted the system partition and did a fresh install of windows.

when trying to run mediacar on this new installation, the same error got thrown up..... so that brings me to my first question - what's up with that? i'm guessing it can't access the volume controls of the new sound card or something? it's a terretec 5.1 sky by the way....

so i installed media engine instead...... seemed to work fine so i settled on that and put th ething back in my car.

now, everytime it boots up or comes out of hibernation, the amps blast out the music at full volume for a breif period until mediaengine has fully started up. this is even with the safe volume resume ticked and turned to zero... and happens whether i run mediaengine as the default shell or not.

randomly, sometimes when returnign to main menu the touchscreen will stop working (or mediaengine will crash.. dunno which) and that's a real ***** because th ethign is set to hibernate upon power off, so it just comes back into it's "frozen" state.

and finally, upon resuming from hibernation it goes into the windows log in screen rather than just straight into what it was doing - why is this?

hmm...I know that the windows recent updates included that everytime you start windows - you will seethe log in screen. Search the forum "login screen" and see how to get rid of that....i dont know about the rest thought...BTV:...why dont you use the embeded sound card...works beautifully for me....if you are not using a cd player to amplyfy sound...then (by the looks of it) you just need to split the integrated sound into surround sound (so you will have seperated rear. front...sub apms out of the 3 plugs inthe back of the computer (mic, aux-in,out))Thah way you can dump the soundcard you have and hopefuklly fix all your problems

the on board sound just wasn't quite good enough quality for me......

how do you turn the other rear connectors into outs? i could only get the front out (green) to work.... so could only run my front speakers

trust me this man is an audiophile - terratec sound cards in a car... what next... oh yeah thatss what i will be doing too

skuzz - didn't know you were on these forums matey.

let me know if you get the same problems as me.... the main one is that th ecomputer doesn't seem to retain memory of the volume setting..... mayeb a email to terretec tech support is in order.

have you tried using the soundcard without the dual-slot pci card to make sure thats not the problem?

does your dual-pci slut riser card need drivers? i seem to recall some of them coming with driver disks....

sorry, forgot abou t this thread...

no, it didn't come with any drivers..... but i haven't tried without as it would involve taking apart my custom case again (quite a hassle) to allow it to fit in the vertical plane.

you think that could honestly be the problem?
