Custom Length Round IDE Cables

First new thread in a while that actually had a carputer question.

Here it is.

I am looking for a custom length IDE cable. Know i have read the threads about the regular IDE cables but what about round IDE cables. Does anybody know where i can find one of these. I need about 6 feet maybe less.

I wonder if coupling two round IDE cables would work?

I am doing this because my USB --> Slimline CD SUCKS *** (from BIXNET

) i have already had them replace one. This time i am just going to stick with IDE. I need reliability here. I have heard of people running 15 footers so i am pretty sure that 6 feet should work.

Anybody have a source other than stonewall cables. I am hoping to get a round IDE cable. Please helpe out. Guys with long IDE who did you get them from?

I'm using oxford firewire bridgeboard to ide .. Have no problem ( well except W2K doesn't support firewire to hibernate)

how long have you been running it?

It may be an option i would just assume stick to straight IDE, I am only extending it maybe 6 feet.

I started using it 6 month ago with 6 feet firewire cbl while i was testing the system in my room, now it's in the car using 15 feet firewire cbl.

generally ide gets unreliable at long cable distances, i'd go with the firewire set up or some other thing like that.

i doubt you'll find a round one any longer than 36". you could find a flat cable and make it round by cutting the wires with an exacto knife. thats really all a round ide cable is. not sure if splicing two together would work but its certainly worth a try

I would really suggest not doing long lengths of rounded IDE cables... Even flat IDE cables don't do great over long distance, and rounded IDE cables make it even worse (Less shileding between individual wires, they're all bunched together, etc.).

If this is for a CD drive, it MIGHT be okay if it's the only choice, but don't do any great length of IDE cable (especially rounded) for a hard drive.

If you need a long distance, I would suggest a USB or firewire external IDE enclosure, such as this:
