    Mount motherboard over hard drive?

Is this safe? For the sake of saving space, I was thinking about mounting my motherboard over the hardrive. I'm building my own case out of plexiglass. The hard drive would be mounted on the bottom side of the case and two plexiglass slats and some sort of material would be between the HD (smooth side of HD) and mobo. Is that going to be an issue at all? Like I said, there would be material between the HD and mobo so the two wouldn't touch. I just thought I'd ask before I did it.

It'll be fine. My hard drive is suspended quite close over my motherboard and it's been ok.
Just make sure you have adequate airflow for cooling.

Thanks...I got the airflow covered with two large fans. I wasn't sure so I thought I'd ask before I screw my project up w/out ever installing it!

man i would be carefully about that specailly if you are going to have a system. your mobo falling on the Hd when your system hits its not going to be a good situation.

I thought about that too...they are going to be separated by slats that run under the hd and screws will mount the hd to the case. My biggest worry was some kind of electrical interference or static..

What are you worried about?? Go look at some of the small cases made for the mini-itx boards...where do you think they stick the hdd?

It never hurts to ask...I would just hate to have spent all this time on a project to have it go down the tubes.
