yeah i had the same problem. Winxp will not let you switch mobos without reinstalling the operating system.
You can try uninstalling all drivers for the motherboard and then switching.

New keyboard? I don't even turn the PC off to switch keyboards...why on earth would one want to reinstall windows?

"Upgrade to Windows XP" works well too. It goes through the whole installing drivers, but also overwrites all the other files as well, while keeping all your settings and added software. Sometimes it can be a little better than repair. You lose all the updates either way, so you have to do that all over again. If you get SP2 before doing any updates, there will be a lot less updates to do. It has all the old updates in it and would be good to have on disk since it has the RDP patch so you don't get a virus as soon as you get online (unless you have a hardware firewall).

For example, if you install windows with a standard keyboard, then change to one with the media keys, it won't recognize those and there's no way to install a new keyboard driver. It's just stupid.

i say they should encorporate a small media card (that looks like a chipset) on your motherboard, so you could flash your drives via hardware rather than use microsoft to do it. It would be some much more conveint and there would be 1/100th the driver problems.
