Ir Backup Camera
I haverecently ordered this camera for my car system. Should be great. It was very cheap and comes complete with rca tv/out connects. I am working on a relay so that when I put my Car in reverse it will automaticaly switch my lcd in the front of my car from viewing my pc to the ir mini camera in the back. I will keep you all posted on my findings.
Here is the site for the camera http://www.spycameras4less.com
I can't wait to see your results. This is something I really want to look into but am a little worried about how to mount cameras. I'm also really worried about what might happen when it rains and all other fun weather problems.
While on the subject of cameras, does anyone know of any really cheap USB IR sensitive cameras? I have four free usb ports and it would be really nice to maybe have a couple of them hooked up to the pc.
The size and shape of this camera make it ideal to mounting behind your lic plate. The only prob the ir camera pose is that it has to have 6 additional holes drilled through the plate for the ir lights. If you wan't to go with a standard b&w or color camera all that is needed is one single hole drilled through the plate. As for weatherproofing the caseing inwhich the camera comes in is 90% weatherproof. But I am going to go down to the local napa and get one of thoes gaskets that you can cut to your own need and place it with some sealant. I am sure there are some other ways to install this and I would like any info anyone has on this subject as well as ways to install a relay to turn the camera on when I Back up. (buckuplights might be one way but how do I convince the lcd to switch inputs.
I paid $40 each for my two, and they didnt come with that nifty housing.
as far as USB, I dont know of anything that would suit your needs. its been my experience that USB cameras dont get good refresh rates (but maybe things have changed).
I used my two cameras about 3 times during the 6 months I had them on my truck. of course, i didnt have a computer in their--i was using a pocket television as a monitor.
maybe some kind of rca output converter? Just trying to think of a way to control which camera is being used through the computer, instead of more external switches.
I thought about doing this..
Then I realized that you probablt wouldn't see anything on the screen due to bad lighting.
ITs too dark under there for the camera to work really well I think, especially if its a cloudy day..
Good luck though!
