ok...quick question....is this iBUS plug-n-play? will the computer recognize it once it is plugged into the serial port?

reason y i asked is because i just bought the iBUS thingie from germany and connected it to my car. Then, i connected it to my computer. How do i know my computer recognizes it?

use ibusanalyser and set it to the com port that your device is using (use device manager to see). Then you should see the messages of the car thru the ibus analyser.

Im sort of new at this, but I got an e36 deck for my e30 that has I-Bus. I was originally going to hook my ipod up through the cd changer port. Would I-Bus allow me to plug my ipod in and control it through the deck?

    Thanks

I'm not sure how you've hooked up the E36 deck to the E30, but I would doubt that you have proper i-bus functionality. if anything, u probably have it from the headunit only. So in answer to your question, you would either need to search for an "bmw ibus ipod" and the likes see this: http://www.densionusa.com/icelink_info_bmw.htm or you have to find an ibus m-bus emulator. m-bus is the alipne cd changer standard. other manfacturers have different buses... hope that's enough to get you started on your quest!

ok thanks! Yeah its just off the deck, I was thiking right after I posted theres probably more I am missing, I saw that ice link, I would rather not spend $300 on an adapter, I would like to try and make my own. Although that dosnt look very promising.

    Thanks for the help

One more quick question. On my old kenwood deck I had in my other e30, it had an analog cd chager port, looke like a 8 pin DINconnector. I just looked up the schematics for it and found it was basically just a line in, I just had to jump two pins with a resistor to get it to click into AUX mode.

Anyways, would it be possible with the BMW changer to do this at the very least? Just plug into the changer input line with an audio feed? I couldnt find schematics for this deck, but I would assume its a digital input.

no way it's digital, otherwise it would be the MOST system on the brand new bimmers. u ust gotta keep searching dude. try this:

    http://www.maushammer.com/systems/ip...od-remote.html

there are many ways to do this, my guess is u'll need minimal electornics + switches (hack into a joystick perhaps?) and some cabling. good luck

Alright, I will figure something out. I guess worst case theres an adapter from USA.SPEC for $110 that will allow my deck to control my ipod. Thanks again
