CPU Cooling
What is the minimum CPU cooling required for a pent 75. I can't get ahold of any thermal paste until monday and i would really like to get some stuff done this weekend. Right now the CPU has patches of dry paste and just a heat sink. Will I be okay for just a few days?

Pent 75 doesn't require much cooling. I doubt you need thermal paste. But it would really depend on the cooling system you have in your case. Is this your car computer or home? If it is you home computer you could just leave the side of your case off and it should be fine. I would suggest going to a computer store and picking up a CPU cooling fan (most come with a heatsink).

Hey thanks for the quick replies. This is just for a couple of days while it is in my house getting ready for the install. I went ahead and turned it on without paste and it got fairly hot to the touch, but nothing cpu damaging. Do you think I could OC it to 90 mhz once i got paste and slapped on a fan? From what I hear the step from 75 to 90 when it comes to mp3s is pretty hefty.

I have a pentium 120, with a small heatsink and no thermal paste (I really should get some, but it was never on there to begin with) and I have a fan mounted in the top of the case blowing directly onto it and the RAm, so nothings gettin warm in that case.

YOu don't really need a fan, but thermal paste is important stuff to make the connection between the CPU and heatsink. However, fans are so cheap these days that you can pick up a ball bearing one for $3. So really, there isn't a good reason not to use it.
As for over clocking, it is specific to the chip. The only way to know is to try it.
