Please help someone, I have no idea what is wrong.
Hello,
Just got all of my parts for my carPC and put it all together. I have a Via M10000. I loaded Windows XP and then installed the drivers off of the included cd-rom (all of them). Then I installed media car and guess what? No sound. I checked the volume levels and all seem to be ok and the speakers work with another computer. I also tried to use windows sounds and they do not come through either. The Via audio driver shows up in the hardware manager (as VIA AC'97 Audio) and no conflicts are evident there. Any thoughs? Thanks in advance.
Jason
PS
Tried to search but could not find anything.
Edit: The volume control panel with all of the different volume controls has the heading of "Front Speaker" instead of "Volume Control" as with every other machine I have used. Not sure if this might hint at the problem or not.
Edit #2: The onboard audio is set to auto in the BIOS

r u useing the digital or analogue connectors for the speakers? and whom of them is activated as output?
I am using the analog outputs. I don't know how to select which outputs are used but the spdif is not enabled in the advanced tab in volume control.

make sure you didn't check "enable smart 5.1" check box. Did you plug some head phone in there to make sure it isn't speakers/amp/wiring/

Just using desktop speakers that work on my desktop. And that check box is not enabled but that was a good idea. Any other ones?

plugged into the right connector?
working cables?
Just kidding =)
But seriously, checked for broken connectors on the mobo? =S
Cant get any sound out of it? Have you tested the spdif? =S Sounds extremly strange =(
no broken connectors are evident on the mobo but honestly I don't know what to look for. Unfortunately I don't own anything that has spdif input so I can't test that. Any other ideas or is everyone as stumped as me. I was trying to be optimistic but it looks like a hardware problem. Any other input would be appreciated.

Someone has to have an idea. I bought the board second hand so perhaps its just broken but maybe there is a jumper setting somewhere or something, help would be appreciated.

On the sound properties do you see more than one sound devices like DirectSound Device and VIA AC'97 or something? If you do then select the other one.
