Your question is very open and vague. What all would you like your system to do? What do you mean when you write "i know a CD-ROM/DVD_ROM wont work"?
Ok i'v got the LCD screen but i need to find the hardware
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI....06645&tc=photo
would this be ok?
Its a VIA EPIA Mini ITX MII 6000 Motherboard
with this powersupply?
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI....12054&tc=photo
Its a Morex 80W power supply for a car
Now would the powersupply be ok when the car cranks? it looks like it should from the descriptions
and the motherboard would that be fast enough for Destinator with media car playiong mp3's ??
Also is 80 watts enough power for the motherboard usb GPS reciever and a laptop hdd (i know a CD-ROM/DVD_ROM wont work)
I only started this about a week ago and i can never wait long to finish it so are these all i need?
Thank you![]()

You probably want to go with the 1GhZ Via board the one you found might be a little slow for GPS and Mp3s at the same time. As for the power supply I'm pretty sure the morex power supply won't survive engine crank. As for whether or not it would be enough power check out www.mini-box.com and click on EPIA power simulator to figure out your power requirements.

I don't know too many people who are rendering gigabytes of 3D in their carputer.
Im sorry i was vague
i want to know if 600Mhz with XP is enough to run destinator and MP3 at the same time using media car?
Also i'm only using it for MP3 GPS and maybe DIVX
thats it no DVD
The ebay auction for the power supply says it can't run a CD-ROM cause of the power. What do you mean when you write "i know a CD-ROM/DVD_ROM wont work"?
This is the only thing i can really get in australia so will this be enough for GPS and MP3 at the same time?
Yes 600 is more than enough. That's what I use myself in-car. If you read my post above you'll see that I did all that succesfully with a 266 PII.
You may be able to run a slimline optical drive.
If you're asking for budgeting reasons, don't forget all of the cabling and other nic nacs that you need to complete the install. All of this could add up after awhile.
Things like:
AUX input converter for your head unit - if you plan on keeping it and it doesn't have RCA inputs
AMP - if you plan on ditching the head unit
CABLES - USB extensions, AMP and/or Power supply power cables and grounding, etc etc
I know I overlooked all of these costs and my head started swimming all of the different times I had to whip out my wallet.
mATX mobo
2.4 GHz Celeron (prescott)
512 MB RAM
80 GB 3.5" HD
Runnin off an inverter (for now)
7" Lilliput
Microsoft (Pharos) USB GPS
Have yet to pull the trigger on a slim slot load DVD
STATUS: who knows... I don't
Thanks for the help guys
i searched the forums and found the morex 80w power supply does survive cranking
