Just a flat fiberglass layer conformed to the shape of the dash on that part of it, then a spare lilliput (or xenarc, or whatever) housing positioned, cloth stretched over it, fiberglassed, then painted/covered with leather/vinal/whatever.

Sorry if I don't make any sense, only slept about 3.5 hours last night, so not thinking too clear.

That's really the only place I can think of... Sunvisor is an option I guess.

I like the idea of this, but never done fibre-glass before. Although since the car is made of fibreglass it'd be the perfect addition

Only thing is there isn't "lots" of space above the dials etc. It'd end up being more of a "big lump plonked on top", like. I'll take a few photo's from different angles though, see what we can come up with.

I actually pondered that idea, but then dismissed it. In theory it'd not be too difficult - toothed track on either side of the lilliput, then a worm-gear either side to motor it in and out. But I came against 2 problems: -

1. It breaks my "you're not taking a hacksaw to your dashboard!" rule.
2. It's very cramped under there - I don't think there'd be space for a screen to recess.

I agree, it would be the best option though.

If you don't get any good ideas by the time the meet is happening, bring it down, and we'll all drool over the car and give you some ideas on where to put it. Someone might come up with the perfect place for it by seeing it in person, which they could not see over the internet

ok, how about in the well just to the left of the driver, do a fibreglass unit, which then pops up when needed.

Take out the HU and the little black slot above it (what is that, exactly?), and you should be able to fit a screen in there quite nicely.

That's also the perfect position for it, IMO

The black "slot" is actually my lights panel - for indicators, park brake, engine warning etc. Can't really remove that as I need to know if my engine is broke

I could in theory relocate that panel somewhere, but I've already measured up and even with that gone the lilliput is a little too big, it would foul the clock and buttons above (removing from the case is an option here but the question is then of what to do with the buttons): -

I did have one other ponder, and that's to have it mounted passenger-side but facing me. The curve of the dashboard reasonably fits with the curve of the bottom of the screen. Again though it'd mean me getting good at fibreglass pronto! And I'd still be scared of it being nicked: -

The above could either be fibre-glass moulded in, or perhaps I could fab. some form of quick-release mechanism, such that when I seat it, it is held in place and connected electrically - kinda a new connector on the bottom of the screen rather than separate power and flimsy d-plug. Then there would just be a plastic connector atop the dashboard, and the screen could be taken away when left. Hmmmmm, ponder ponder ponder...

It does feel kinda sinful contemplating modernising a classic british sportscar, but I just can't live without it!

You could use a gooseneck from the front right passenger seat bolt. SHould put the screen just above the handbrake.

you need to go buy a whole pile of servos and solenoids and relays and learn to turn your manual gearbox into an electronically controlled "manual-automatic" much like the Alfa Selespeed etc. Put the paddle shift behind the wheel etc

Then once this is done, put the screen where the gear lever is and you are sorted ! ! the bonus is you get a pc and paddle shift gears !!!!!
