Thread: headunit vs. Amp

Go for the amp option. You will want to get subs/etc later and will have the amp ready to go. Head unit amplifiers are usually just for quick setups and for running super tweeters. A good quality amp is what you want!

And if FM radio is anything like here in Melbourne (with their playlist of about 12 songs!), dont even bother with an FM tuner card!!

Theres several good radio stations around me,
so I would want a tuner,
and my playlist of songs is only about a 150 songs. Napster Bit the dust as soon as I got broadband.
Anyone know of some alternatives?
I really don't want to spend the money on new speakers, and I just have the factory speakers (actually, they are the hi-quality option package).
If I have a 4 channel amp, and 6 speakers, will the 2 that I add to one, and the 1 I add to the other port even out?
Or do I put my back subs on there own channel?
How does that work?

The headunit I want has 45 watts per channel, and the amp has 50, so they are kinda even.


as its lookin now, I am probably going with the Headunit, as it will look alot nicer.

Like I have a Kenwood 45W x 4 and I'm sure the RMS is like 12 watts... but it's still nice.

See, I don't like loud music. I have a monsterous ancient Amp in my room, and I don't think I've ever had it past 1/4 way on the volume knob.
And the RMS on the headunit I want is 20watts, and if you get by on 12, I should be just fine.
I really don't want to be tearing up my dash and everything to be running speaker wires to my trunk, and halving to wait for a minute to even be able to listen to the radio,
but, is there a way I could possible still have a radio, and later put in an amp aswell?
I don't know how all of that works.
