it is possible to do it using a regular delphi skyfi receiver. Im a regular over there on xm411 and it has been shown to be possible. I was lucky ennough that i bought a xm pcr 2 weeks ago for 39.99 and one without an antenna for 14.95. I was quite lucky..

But research over there for using a delphi skyfi . the only thing that you need to fix is the audio out problem, I have an idea how to fix it but need to look at some other things first..

I guess anyone looking at the pcb (printed cirquit board) of the projesc can figure out - there is only one REALLY needed component on it - the tuner (for those who don't care - the big metallic box in the middle), like the ones in your tv-sets, sat-boxes and pc-tv-tuner-cards. The tuner here is everything - it tunes on the right frequency channel (could be hardcoded in there, since the entire service seems to be provided through only one transponder as digitally muxed stream of all the 40 channels), it down-converts and detects the signal converting into simple unmodulated digitally readable data stream, it possibly even demultiplexes the package down to a single channel and even decrypts it, thus all you have to do is to feed it into SPDIF or wherever you want (lets say convert to analog-audio using D/A convertor). All the other components on the pcb is more or less a bull**** added by author to satisfy his passion. All it (tuner) takes in is THE CODE (also could be hardcoded like a serial number) to decrypt the stream, and a "channel" selection sequence (also very simple digital signal). Thus all the math and aftermath is done IN THERE, let's say in some custom programmed pga (programmable gate array - cirquity level programmable, proccessor like digital ic). And those are next to impossible to replicate, if you cannot directly read out their code, or if you're not purely genuine.
...it all makes me tink it's one way or another a sad story on it's end...

There was a discussion on xm411.com yesterday about how to take the RF section out of a SkyFi and make a homebrew PCR with a few other components. That thread has since been killed, this is all that's left.

It appears that this topic (a PCR replacement) has really attracted the attention of XM's legal group. I think leaving it alone for the time being would be wise.

I have no experience with any XM Hardware, but from what I read and hear - The recievers all talk TTL Logic - TTL to Serial rs-232 is easy (Iposted links to the cables / parts in another thread) just need to probe around or find some info on the connector on the front of the XM Direct box - After that, the unit can be connected to an xm head unit, then simply run a Serial line analyzer on the data transmition.

Im on the waiting list for the XM Direct unit. I think I can handel most of the above, after that, its up to the software guys.

Damn, they create a product for us. Satellite radio for us computer geeks, and then they wont let us have it.

Dont they realize they can't stop people recording stuff that is broadcasted over the airwaves. IMPOSSIBLE.
