Does anyone know any XM modules or XM chipsets around? If they sport an I2C bus I know I can use them somewhere....![]()

All generation 2 XM receivers have the same exact tuner box inside. Gen 2 receivers include: SkyFi, Roady 1, PCR, and some OEM units.
The gen 2 tuner box is a metal encased can, it exposes serial inputs/outputs along with digital audio output at 20-bit 44khz. (output format changes when switching to the traffic/weather channels)
The protocol is a very simple send command/get result protocol.
The protocol is well documented thanks to the XMPCR.
All authentication is handled internally to the tuner chipset. Its based on a serial number system. The serial number is embeded in a small ROM area inside the XM Stack decoder chip. Its thought XM broadcasts approved serial numbers in a continuous loop. If your receiver doesn't hear its own serial it deactivates itself.
The only way to steal XM service is to remove the stack decoder chip from a working and activated receiver and put it into a non-activated receiver.
1st gen receviers typically had the serial number contained on a seperate ROM chip. Someone did manage to clone a 1st gen Sony receiver because of this. They removed the ROM chip, copied it and then put it inside a non-activated receiver. But whats the point? You still need a activated receiver to get the chip from!
Im sorry but this thread isn't about stealing xm. That is totally wrong, what we are discussing is how you can modify the Delphi Skyfi to make a PCR. Before those threads were killed I looked at them and they werent that bad. And as the link I posted earlier you can modify the Skyfi. The Skyfi has a mode that is called PC theater mode. and the PCR has a mode called Skyfi mode.. From the electronics they are the same. If you can solder, then you can convert the Delphi into a PCR. All you need to do is probe and get the sound out. But there is a way, trust me.
Man, that sucks! I haven't been around MP3Car for a while. This is the first I've heard of the whole XMPCR is dead thing...I totally planned on buying one but since I hadn't yet put my carputer together, I didn't. It's plain stupid. They opened up a whole new group of subscribers, only to shut them out?
Stupid...I should've bought one when I originally found the product and posted it here.
Ahh well, I guess I'll just have to wait and see.

There will be NO I repeat NO discussion of stealing XM service on this board at all.
I am speaking to everyone. Now hacking something into a pcr...go right ahead![]()

My next generation Front End is right on schedule.
It will be done sometime in the next generation.
I'm a lesbian too.
I am for hire!
And I have yet to hear of anyone actually doing that too.
It's hard to 'steal' service when they just cancel products about of the blue like this....

I don't think anyone wants to steal svc. - I dont. I want service. I want to pay for it.
Stevewm - do you know anything about the pin outs for the gen 2 stuff - Based on what your saying- I don't think I will have any problems finding the signal once I get the box and a TTL/RS-232 chip.
