    Question digital voltmeter = interference??

I just installed a digital voltmeter, i ran the +12 volt down the passenger side, away from any wires, and grounded it to a bolt on the chassis, and the +12 volt switched source is the same as the head unit switched source. Anyways, i have a single 12" and i am getting buzzing in it now that I installed the voltmeter. I disconnected the ground, and the interference stopped...so I think this may be the source, but I'm not sure. I have tried multiple grounding points to get rid of the interference, but can't seem to do so. Does anyone know how I can get rid of it? Thanks.

Some volt meters require that you place a resistor across the input leads. The resistor is usually a 1 Meg Ohm or a 10 Meg Ohm value. Check the instrucions for the meter... If it doesn't say specifically that you need to, you can try placing a 1 Meg Ohm resistor across the input to the meter to see if that solves the problem. It won't hurt anything to try.

it sounds like you are making a ground loop with the earth make sure the earthing point is down to bare metal for the best connection, if this does not work try earthing to an existing earth point. hth

    Ground Loop

If you have a ground loop go to your nearest Best Buy and get a Ground Loop Isolator. It plugs into the rca s on your amp. This should clear things up. Its like $16
