    Post Constant power cycling of carputer

    I find that I have to turn on/off my carputer at least 4, 5 times a day, which is definitely not a good thing. Anybody know what exactly is the damage done?

    In terms of reduced real world life expectancy of HD, MB, and other components?

    Anybody with a good solution to this problem?

    now if the PC was from the last generation, then YES. But todays PC's are high tech and the engineers did take into account the on/off state. After all, a pc can be in 1 of 3 states....On,Off, or suspend.
    IMHO, i don't think any damage will be done. If thats the case then ur hardware is still old tech.

    No damage should be done. The harsh environment of the car is more damaging than the power cycling. Even the last generation of computers were not damaged by power cycling. That is basically an urban myth, started by the companies that made HD parking utilities (although on the real old drives, parking was important).

    I've always left computers on, because most errors happen on bootup. That's not much of a problem anymore, but I run software that uses the spare CPU cycles for research, so I just leave it on 24 hours a day. Plus, it doesn't need to boot up.
