    Saintsong Espresso pc

I just got my Espresso delivered today... WOW! this thing is tiny. Imagine the novel '2001 A Space Odyssey' in paperback, now chop off 1" from the top of each page and you're not far off!

I'm quite impressed with the build quality and the packing + accessories.. I was expecting something quite shoddy - even the ports and usb connectors line up well and don't flex as they do on most things like this.

...Got a bigger 40gb disk arriving, along with a 16x16 256mb dimm to max it out. Other than that, I'll be ripping the chunky Xbox and power invertor out of the Soop and fitting this in the glove box or under the arm rest (i think it's small enough to fit in there). Still undecided about software - may go with media engine + win xp or 2k... but voice control 'sounds' (if you'll forgive the pun) very intruiging.....

    ahh

this is what im planning on getting too they sell for 176 where ive seen them, don't have the link to hand though unfortunately...

lemme know how it runs, some people think the 700mhz won't be enough, but i managed wiv a p2 450mhz as my only pc until about last november n it did all i wanted it to! so 700mhz for a car pc id think is fine

btw has ne1 tried using a different shell for Win XP? one that uses less resources, lets face it theres alot of crap u dont need in a carpc, i remember reading about a gameos xp; a shell that just cut down on resources, and just had basics for games, im sure theres one that would be good for a car pc?

I got mine from sterlingxsx.co.uk - its actually the 900A Ezra C3; a bit pokier than the older design. You looking at the same place? ;-)

I'm trying to get a memory upgrade at the moment... its a bit tricky as it needs a 16 chip module to max it out to 256mb - the Intel 810 chipset only supports up to 16mb density per chip (16mb x 16chips=256mb).... I ordered what I thought was a suitable module (labelled 256 pc100 SODIIM - 16x16) ... but they sent a 8 chip version instead, so it only recognises half the amount (as each chip is actually 32mb density).

Still, I got a cheap disk upgrade from Dabs... 50 quid for a 40gb 5400rpm disk with 8mb cache.

I tried win2k on it last night... it was dog slow, of course, with only 64mb - swapping to disk all the time... worked fine though.
