Hmm... Don't know about you guys, but premade carputers kind of take away the whole fun of doing a carputer project in the first place.

Right now, just having one in your car shows you put a lot of work into it. Building the computer, running wires, mounting the screen, in some cases bondoing, fiberglassing, painting, etc. etc. etc.

Anyone can just go out and buy something prebuilt. But where's the fun in that? It's no longer special. It's like buying a premodded case or something... Sure, it looks cool, but it just shows that you spent money on something. Of course, people in SUV's with huge spinning wheels listening to rap music and talking about "bling-bling" would argue with me on this point.

    Just my $0.02 (USD)

Even though i dont drive a SUV and my rims dont spin, and my music taste includes everything under the sun except country. I am little offended by your post. Exactly what are you trying to say?

That people who fit your discription are only interested in getting a carputer because its something cool or nice looking to show off? Who cares if you built your carputer yourself or not. Maybe some people actually dont find any fun or joy in putting a system together and are more concerned with it working and using it than building it. The single reason why computers are prebuilt in the first place, just because your sticking it into a car dosent make it any different. Did you build your car part by part? Most likely not, although there are many people who do this as a hoby, they dont flame people for walking into a dealership and driveing away in a new coupe.

This whole "i want to keep carputers special and secret" attitude that keeps popping up everytime someone posts something about someone selling a carputer or some big company (ie MS) trying to get in on the market, is just silly!
And stunts the growth of this still very young market.
I for one cant wait till the market is flooded with carputers and wallmart is even selling them. It just makes everything a lot easier for everyone with a whole lot more choices and flexability to do exactly what you want to do, better and cheaper.

I built my carputer for the same reason a lot of people here did. Because they wanted to have the flexibility of having tons of music, video, gps, and the freedom of a computer to do whatever you like while your on the go.

So since "building" the carputer is where all the "fun" is, why not just take your system out of your car and reinstall everything over and over. Im sure that'll be a blast. You can even start a new sub forum about the joys of installing carputers.

Face it, the title of "I did it first" is quickly overshadowed by the person who did it best, and there will allways be someone who does it better.

    END RANT:

    I agree...

Theres absolutely nothing wrong with buying or building a carPC. Some people here simply have other better things to do than fiddling with their carPC for months and months.

I personally like to build my own things...but thats only because I have some spare time and like what Im doing, without those Ill go straight to a carPC shop and get my one done within some hours.

Sometimes customising a carPC just take too long and by the time it get finished it is already outdated and its time to get a new parts for it. Those who had theirs bought have already been enjyoing theirs from day 1 and some are still there struggeling trying to put it together

But then how do one define building a carPC? did they designed every parts, build them and put them together? or did they just buy the case, m/b, cpu, mem, psu and put them together? Thats nothing to be proud off...that just like assembling a flat packed furtniture.

Give another 5 years times I doubt it very much anyone will be designing a PSU, shutdown controller, relay board, case...etc when they can all be bought ready made in the shop. I only designed my own stuff because the one I need is not "AVAILABLE" at this time.

Trust me no one is going to bother building a carPC in the future...it just wont be economical anymore...and most likely will look crap compared to the one made by the big company. Does anyone in here still have the time to build a car radio/amps for fun? or do you just go out and buy them? This is exactly whats going to happen in the carPC scene in the future.

One thing though...modders are always gonna be around.

Poeple says that when they feel bad after wasting so much time and money then only half of it works...when the whole thing can be bought ready made, ready to install and much cheaper.

I must admit I sometimes feel...noooo dont release a ready made carPC yet, wait for another 2 years, let me enjoy my hard work before I start drooling all over your newly released carPC

Funny enough, most people I know when they see my carputer, they ask if i can build one for them. Very rarely they ask if I can help them build their own.
Most people like cool stuff, but they do not have the fun/skill/will we have to build themselves.
This is great. Think about it. Without them, there wouldnt be a market for this kind of product, and so, we would have to pay huge amounts of money to buy our components. If everyone that has sound systems in their car builds their own amps, we would have to pay ten times more for a pre-made one.
What Im saying, is that if the market grows, tfts, psus,etc... will cost significantly less. And that is good news to me anyway I look at it.

Me.. I will always try to do something different. People are used to call me crazy, so I dont want to let them down

    Thats great!!!!

on a serious note.... business boils down to supply and demand....you wouldnt see these other companys sprouting up all over the place if it werent going to sell....and thats a fact. It might not be for everyone to buy a "pre made" system... but it sure does strengthen creativity.... because if you have a proven working system, then its much easier integrate things you want to do into your carPC

do you think that when radio first came about that the radio fanatics that built there own radios saw a demise in commercial radio products?....maybe....but guess what it didnt stop the manufacturers from selling any......

compitition is good in this or any industry because it spawns better products....

There's pretty much no chance of me buying one, but I still can't wait to see the price.
