Good news for Sirfstar GPS people (WizardPC, I guess that means you and me)
It seems that the sirfstar GPS is definitely compliant as a 4800 or 9600 NMEA 2.2 gps device. The mitac is supposed to be default in NMEA, or there is a command to send through serial that will activate it into nmea mode.

I think I better call softwareandstuff, I sent mine back about 3 weeks ago because it was messed up, but I havent heard anything yet. As far as it being NMEA compliant, i dunno, because if you select "NMEA Reciever" in that crap software they sent us it wont work.....

WEll don't do anything yet, cuz I JUST recieved the SiRFStar GPS analyzer that is supposed to work the module into NMEA mode, but its not working with the Retki 4800 baud or 9600 baud yet. Actually, I haven't actually found out how to make the software convert the signals.
Oh yeah, the technical representative of SiRF Star said that if I want, I can get a firmware program that will allow it to become NMEA defaulted. I'm trying to get that as well, but I'm not sure if it will perform as well in nmea when compared to sirfstar binary (which in my opinion was pretty fast, as long as it sees half of the sky... but I think you mentioned different results)
