    USB DVD, slot loading drives

I am looking for a slot loading, usb, dvd drive that does not have a seperate power supply.
I saw a thread here talking about one that had batteries in the drive that would recharge through the usb cord.
I searched the threads and eBay extensively and found nothing.
Anybody know what I'm talking about?

I did a search for external enclosure and came up with this link. Is this what you are looking for? There are other enclosures out there that you can put a slot load drive into. I got the usb enclosure from bixnet.com and put the drive that I already had in it.

I don't know which drive to recommend, but I do recommend a slot load. That is if you are using the drive while driving. I'm using a regular laptop DVD drive and it sucks trying to change CDs while driving (trying to get the CD centered and pushing in the drawer). But the only time I use the DVD drive is to copy a CD that I just bought or when a passenger wants to watch a DVD (The passenger has access t the drive). Seeing that the USB enclosure is ~$50 shipped, adding a DVD drive adds up to over $80. If you use it that much then the safety of a slot load while driving is worth every penny. Is that worth 2 pennies?

    Absolutely!
Thanks, I'm just having trouble finding a slotload on newegg.com.
Is there a different name for them? I don't see anything about slotloading on any of them. But I'm still looking.
OK, I just realized that I need a laptop "slim internal notebook CD /DVD /CD-RW Drive".
    Still looking...

Doing a search for slimline cd will bring up one, and if your after cd burner also, the NU (manufacturer) one is only CD-ROM and DVD-ROM.

Note they are out of them again, eta is 9/20.

Can you not run +5v to it from the power supply?

    Here's what I've been using.

    [link removed]

I ran a wire from the 5v wire on a molex connector from the Opus power supply in the trunk to my dash in the front of the car.

I also ordered a couple other things from them and was very pleased with speed of processing, shipping, and service.

    Red face

ppgt94... I just got the same drive yesterday! ...I have yet to get it to read dvd's, but my question is regarding noise: Is the drive's internal mechanism just noisy or do I have a faulty unit? It just seems "too" loud
Who is the Panasonic CW-8123 working for you?
