Athlon Or Pentium ?? DVD, Navigation, GPS, Wardriving, MP3's... Fast boot

Intel or AMD, And How Fast ?? How much RAM....

Will be running a "LitePc" Windows XP machine..... Will be doing some wardriving, playing LOTS of mp3's, want to watch video, DVD's, using a GPS and want to use navigation.... I also want this thing to boot fast.... Any ideas ?? I dont want to buy way more than I need, but have no problem getting something decent..... Also I've always been an Intel person, but was told to give AMD a try.... Anyone offer some input ??

I think the AMD is better for multi tasking but there is a heat issue unless you go with a mobile.I only used a p4 cause I had it hanging around but I would go with a AMD never had problems with them and Ive been building for 10 yrs. now

Been using AMD's for years. Been using an XP2000 in my car (in the trunk) for almost a year. It runs in an enclosed case with a couple of fans. Normally runs 127 to 129 degrees F. Hottest day of the summer here in Ohio, after sitting in my office parking lot all day pc booted with a 149 degree temp but shortly afterwards settled in the low 130 range. I have not experienced any heat related issue, but the system is vented.

Comes down to user preference. I'm also running a Amd XP-2000 like batman and can say with a little help, I've never had heat issues. Using a stock Heat Sink and fan from an XP2600+ and this nifty program called CPU-Idle (to help lower temps) in the blaring sun on a hot day during the summer I've maxed CPU temp around 64Deg C or so. This was done with GPS running in the background and Playing a High-Res Divx. One deg below my mobo shut down tempeture. Keep in mine this is in a trunk and a black car.

If your worried about heat, then get an AMD XP-M Processor or the Pentium. Just if your going Pentium, check out the processor specs first cause some of them (like the P4 Extreme Editions) also get hot like AMD's if your not careful.

For a carputer? Why not check out the Epia M10000? It's more then fast enough for what you described. I play DivX on mine, do GPS navigation, play MP3s, WarDrive, etc, all w/o any problems.

In a car computer, actual electrical consumption is more important than you think. If you put a multi gigahertz speed demon in, you'll need the watts to run it, and even with an inverter, that can get hairy. Also, some car electrical systems might be overwhelmed or at least taxed by having to support the load.

If you go with an Epia, you'll have the following advantages:
    1. Physically smaller
    2. Can use a DC-DC power supply like the Opus.
    3. Generates less heat
    4. Possibly cheaper.

I've got a 160 amp alternator ((stock is 90 amp)) in my ranger with an optima yellow top deep cycle.... I'm not worried about power consumption, the electrical system should ((BETTER)) be able to take it without complaint.... I will however ((for now at least)) will be running an inverter.....
