    How powerful is the EPIA-M10K?

I mean, I know its pretty good. But how good will it be for real world applications? Say like a web server? Or database SQL server?

I've never tried running a DVD on one, is it good?

What kind of modern games that are actually playable on the M10K?

Sure it'll run a webserver or database server, those applications were run on 33mhz 386s a decade ago. The real question you need to ask is, how BIG a server can it run? Eg, how many transactions per second? An M10K should be able to run anything that one person would use in their car no problem. DVD playback is smooth, same with DivX. Most games will probably play fine considering that you can drop the resolution because the LCDs are so small. I run MAME on mine and it plays every game like a champ.

    1) It's performance as a webserver might be acceptable (not great, though). As an SQL server, it would be a dog.
    2) Why would you want to attempt either app on an EPIA? Are you going to be a mobile webhost or somesuch?

It would seem to me that in this forum, people are using their EPIA's in their automobiles. 'Real world applications' in your car would not include SQL server in your ride.
    But that's just me....
Have you looked in the FAQ yet?
    How about the Wiki?

Under normal circumstances, a signature would go here.

    Thanks for the input folks.

As to the "why's", lets say it will be fitted in an industrial vehicle, going where no computer has gone before.. and have hundreds of people extracting data from it.

I consider the EPIA because its cool in terms of temperature. I hear its also quite robust (less crashes)

If my opinion means anything to you I'd say not to use the EPIA in critical applications. It is not designed for it and it's not exactly rock-solid. I'd advise you turn to an industrial mobo solution with guarantied system stability and more flexible in terms of data aquisition and distribution (4 RS232 and Gigabit Ethernet).

    Good luck

This doesn't mention the M10K directly, but I would assume its pretty close to the M 9000. Seems decent for multimedia since it can do some hardware decoding, but there are much faster solutions for the price if you can take the heat.

Yeah my actual concern is the heat, because it will be on 24/7 and a quite a number of people will be trying to access data it monitors.

Real industrial motherboards are too expensive for this kind of work that does not generate much revenue.
