Thread: Empty DIN pocket bracket or mount for LCD?

I just did this in my 04 Nissan Frontier. The mount area is a Double Din and allowed me to use an aftermarket Kenwood Single DIN headunit and then the In-Dash housing from Digitalww.com. Armen at digitallww can put a Lilliput, Xenarc or Pioneer (?) into the housing for you.

The nice part about it is that it tucks into the housing providing a very nice and secure finished look and there are no modifications to the car. Heck, I was even able to use my existing brackets from my stock radio. YMMV!

as papaprem said, he doesnt want the kit from digiWW; you will most likely have to fab something custom...

That's a tough one because even moving the radio, you will still block your vents. I don't know if that is a problem for you, if not, great. What I would do is create some type of bracket that you could fasten to your empty tray, the other end would then screw into the existing mounting point of the monitor.

With doing that, you will still have some wires to worry about. Allowing the wires to go into the tray would be clean but you would have to drill some holes into the tray for fastening and passing of cables.

Grabbing another tray would be a nice option for when you need to put the vehicle back to normal.

I know you said you do not prefer the digitalww way of doing things but a screen clear out in the blue is asking for trouble IMO for passer-bys. Even stopping at the mall for lunch could bring you trouble!

Ryuandwings, thanks for the link to the post. However, the mount Lekan uses is more like a ProClip mount. It doesnt go into the cubby hole, but rather into a slit in the dash. Also, it mounts to the bottom of the screen (which puts the bracket in view) and pushes the screen outward too much. I was looking for something that would sit flush with the rest of the dash and not stick out so far.
Troy, I like your idea about creating that type of bracket. Something that I could attach to the empty cubby hole would be ideal. Im not too sure if my empty DIN pocket is closed in the back, but I could always alter that, so that wires could pass through, just like how it does for the stock radio. As for the monitor being in plain view attracting thieves, I was thinking about placing like a stealth cover over it. Or maybe, just disconnecting the monitor each time my car isn't in the garage. Now the hard part is creating such a bracket. Especially for someone like me who isn't too handy with ABS and Fiberglass and all. Thats why I was looking for a ready made solution or even for someone who could customize this for the right price.

The bracket you will need should not be too hard to create in your garage. Just a piece of metal with a bend or two and then a couple of screw holes to fasten it to the pocket. The other end would have a bolt to match the existing mount of the lilliput (or whatever monitor you choose).

That is the thing about our game right now, everyone here has some customization that has to be done.....and most of the people here would not want it any other way.

I have a metal shop available to me here at work. If you could come up with measurements, I might be able to make you such a bracket although for now it would have to be made of aluminum. We are getting an Ironworker shortly here (if the rep ever gets back to me and gets off his butt!) so steel is definitely do-able in the future.

As for how deep it is inside, I believe anywhere from 4"-5" inches would be sufficient for a bracket that attatches to the inner bottom DIN Pocket. Im assuming something with a "L" shape is what I would need. I know Home Depot sells those "L" brackets for shelves that people like to mount against walls, for items like Toaster Ovens and stuff. So basically I would need a double "L" bracket for a more secure mount. Both of them would be the same dimension in size. Roughly 4" by 4". How does that sound?

That sounds doable to me. You know, best thing to do is go to HomeDepot and buy some brackets and try. Those thing only cost A few bucks anyway.

The "L" brackets Home Depot sells are too big. Theyre made more for appliances. The one's I would need are more of a specialty item which I have no clue where to get.
