Ive finnaly got the beast running the car, but there is a humming noise comming through. Right now i have it running thru the ciggarette lighter to a tripplite 300 watt inverter. Would wiring it to the battery help? any other ideas?
The hum is constant, and only changes if i turn up the volume.
Ground the supply to the car. That should cure it!
For all those that want to stop buzzing and many other annoying noise problems, do it right the first time.
1)Run the power for the inverter or DC-DC direct from the battery.
2) When running audio cables (i.e. line level audio), get them as far away from any power source as possible.
3)As was said in the above message, ground EVERYTHING. Lets not get dumb here, I'm not talking about power lines and other assorted items that should be isolated from neutral electropotential. I'm just talking about the case and power supply. One or the other should be fine. If you are using an inverter, it dosent hurt to make sure that there is a good ground connection as well.
4)When building a case for your system, be sure to make it out of metal or at least line the case with a metal barrier that is tied to ground. This will eliminate the EM noise that is put out by the computer that causes so much trouble.
