CD/DVD drive - slot loading *and* USB?

    Hi,
I am looking for a CD/DVD drive that is USB and slot loading (not really fussed if its slim-line or not).

I've not had any luck in tracking one down.

I want to mount it in the front of my car and connected to the car PC in the boot.

How can I connect a slot loading IDE drive to a USB connection? Does it need to be powered from the USB or separately?

    Thanks in advance,
    Sam

    USB - IDE adapter

    +

    IDE to Slimline adapter

    +

    Your slimline drive

    =

    Your solution.

I haven't used these parts together, but I see no reason why they shouldn't work. The first part claims to work for any IDE drive.

EDIT: Sorry, forgot to add that it will have to be powered externally at the second piece, unless you do a USB bus power hack.

    Ah. It might be your accent. Just remember to talk(type) S - L - O - W - L - Y -- A - N - D -- L - O - U - D - L - Y. That's what we Americans always do when we're trying to communicate to someone who doesn't speak English.

You guys really shouldn't be ***'s. I spent 2 FULL 24 hour days searching for a freaking enclosure just like that on every search engine I could possibly imagine. Guess what I found..? NOTHING! I found the stupid tray injection cd roms that you guys keep displaying. He meant Slot Loading, just like I did. Not Tray Loading. I could not find anything involving an enclosure that has nothing in it except for Hard Drives.

You guys should give a little more slack on people. You act like were stupid.

    Actually...lay off a bit.

Here's a related question, how do you get the usb dvd rom drive to work without an external power supply? Is there any way to get the drive to work only w/ the usb cable? I've seen some Li-on battery solutions, but I haven't heard anyone's experience (esp in a car).
