The Nakamichi 45z. The best sounding head unit for under $350. It competes with units four times the price. It has a 20-bit DA (unheardof at that price) and it looks really stylish. Not all busy with animations and garbage that detract from music quality. See what these guys say about it: http://www.elitecaraudio.com/forums/

    Thumbs up

Yeah I would say that would be the unit to go with if you want high quality sound! Can't go wrong with Nakamichi.

I love the new player i bought! Its a Panasonic DF800U http://www.prodcat.panasonic.com/sho...?sku=CQ-DF800U I paid $350 for it (included install) it has a flip down face and the aux ins are in the back so there are no nasty wires hanging out. It can also handle cd/md changer not to forget a DVD player ^_^. And effects on it are so sweet at night!

Whats up with everybody knocking different brands? 'Pioneer sucks' 'Stay away from Aiwa'. Why? If your going to post something about them at the very least state WHY you have that opinion of that certain brand. i own an Aiwa and its perfect for me. Its got the features I want and it had the right price. And it sounds great. I like the way it looks too. I think that that is one of the most important aspects of any head unit. Do you like the button layout? Do you like the way it operates? Do the controls make better sense to you then a different brand? Whats the point in owning a head unit that has features you don't use and an interface that you aren't really happy with.

to me the bottom line is to buy the head unit that works for you. And don't listen to people who don't take the time to back up up negative opinions the same way they do with positive ones.

Its all about image, if you dont have what everyone else likes you suck!

    I hate that mentality,
I will stick with my old Sony tape deck and no name speakers

How about one of those FM modulator things. You plug your audio in and send your signal via a rarely used radio freq. If you are into competition then this idea is probably not for. It is simple but does anybody know where to find one?
