I used the bracket from panavise.

The description isn't too good on proclip.

I assume you have to buy the slide off option, but they sell it as a vehicle swap or two devices.

Buying extra that you don't have to in my opinion...

The proclip doesn't slide off. Once it's mounted, it's kinda stuck there until you force it out. You do have to buy them in two pieces though because it can support many different types.

Understood, but you have to buy 2 of one and one of the other in the same kit instead of just 1 m and 1 f. Would save a few bucks...

It seems you went a little deep on the site, or I just don't understand.
I just went to dashboard mounts, purchased the base that wedges between the center bezel and the padded thing above the glovebox. Then I got the mount that fits onto it (screws) that can hold LCD screens with a screw on bottom to hold it. It's ok so far, but I bought the in dash mount last night from digitalww.

I am very interested in a carputer and have just started reading about them. I want one to play dvd's and for navigation. I plan on using a headunite for cd's and radio etc. I was wondering if anyone could give me a general price range for the cost of the parts to put something like this together. just for the carputer not the tv screen.
    thanks

    P4 2.4 800FSB
    1 GB Corsair
    80GB 7200 RPM HDD
    DVD
mx440 graphics card with RCA out
    Ice Cube case
Earthmate GPS with Street Atlas 2004
    MS Streets and Trips
IR Man - for wireless control of computer
    500 Watt inverter
Cheap fm modulator so I can use stock stereo - don't want my system stolen.

You can get all of this for around $800 (without screen). By using an inverter system with a desktop (albeit small IceCube box) you gain more functionality.
You could omit the FM modulator if your head unit has an AUX in.

The reason I prefer an inverter/desktop setup, is so I can bring the machine into the house to transfer files, perform maintenance, or as a security precaution (so it's not stolen from the car). In the event that some of the hardware fails, it's usually cheaper to replace it with desktop parts, than mini or laptop parts.

just my $0.02. I think I'll post the Icecube system in the for sale. Anyone PM me if interested.

The add on slides lets you quickly slide up and remove whatever device is on the mount. Otherwise you just bolt it to the mount and it's more permanent...

Screw the inverter. If you need to take it back into the house, put the pc out and just use a standard PSU connected to it. It only takes 2 minutes to plug in the other wires to the motherboard. The Opus PSU will save headaches and be cleaner in the long run. The inverter will probably shut off when you start your car after sitting in the parking lot with the pc on, etc.

Maybe I should have gotten those slides... Ah well. The in dash will be much better. Especially come winter time. I want to tuck it into the dashboard so it survives.
