Thread: headunit and computer or just computer?

I'm just using my pc. If you're going to do it this way, you have to have an amp to hook up the audio out from your pc.
If you get a head unit, your pc has to hook up to the head unit. Be careful with that approach. Make sure the head unit you want has RCA inputs that you can listen to without a changer attached.

well computer you can do more than just dvd and cd. Do you have room for screen and HU? If so then perhaps you would like that. Easy to controll volume and bass and stuff.

well i have a nice clarion cd player with auxilary input but i just ordered this dvd headunit. http://shop.store.yahoo.com/discount.../fadvindv.html. i know it's cheap but i just hate using an external dvd player to play dvd's and i wanted to see what this would be like. u never know it could be pretty good. i was thinking about just selling my clarion and investing it in a computer to run dvd's and mp3's and gps but i figured it would be a pain to mount a dvd drive in a good spot with easy access. i also wasn't sure about dvd drives skipping and this farnheit has anti-shock. One other thing i didn't want to worry about was quick trips and having to wait for a computer to boot up. also when i want to invest in a computer i will have to get a touchscreen and get rid of my screen that i have now. oh well guess im stickin with a headunit. heres some pics of my screen now.

thats a really nice pic. do you have a computer already? and just want to know about gettin the dvd player? why not just download your dvd's should never skip then.

I just installed my car pc (epia m10000, travla c134, in-dash xenarc(digitalww)) into my car yesterday, already had amp powering rear speakers and sub attached to headunit, so for simplicity I left the headunit in place, bought a cable to convert my cd changer input to an AUX-in and connected the soundcard output to this, works a treat, pc sound from front and rear and if I dont want to bother with the carpc I can just pop in a cd or listen to the radio.

I say stick with the headunit and pc setup. My .02.

thanks for the input guys i should be getting my indash dvd player next week so we'll see how that goes. i figured that if i want to rent a dvd or something and watch it fast it would be easier to just get a headunit with dvd. i kinda wish i would have just bought a pc. also would a PIII 1000mhz with 256mb ram be enough to run dvd's, GPS and mp3's in a car or should i get a faster processor? thanks

well i have a VIA 1000mhz with 256 megs of ram and its tons fast enuff for all u mention, runs like a wee dream.
