    VIA or Celeron

Hey guys, already ordered a MII10000 and having second thoughts about its processing power.

i want to be able to run GPS on the front in-dash screen and play DVDs for my son on the rear screen via a dual monitor output video card.

will the VIA have enough horsepower to run both with 512mb ram? i was thinking of ditching it for a Celeron 2.0ghz but will end up costing me quite a bit more ($150) because it's worth more and also a restocking fee on the VIA board. they both will fit into the same mini-itx case.

i heard the VIA's are SLOW but never saw one myself. would be kinda useless if right in the middle of the movie, i have to make my son watch GPS while i find where the hell i am

Should work OK, if the video card has hardware MPG/DVD support and thus offloads much of the DVD playing processing to the video card.

ya, it's about $100 more and 2x the performance.. it will fit in the same case so i kinda wished i bought the Celeron.. for me, if i can't run 2 different things on 2 different monitors, it is kinda useless. anyone tell me the BEST pci video card to use? Radeon 7500, 9200?

Craig W, I have used both Radeon 7500 and Chaintech GeForce FX5200. I like Chaintech better since it works a lot smoother. On Radeon, when I try to load an application, both screen would flash before the application window is loaded. Not on the Chaintech. And it seems like the Chaintech would remember applications window assignment (as to on which monitor an application is supposed to be displayed) perfectly. I guess you wouldn't like it if your son ends up with the GPS screen and you with DVD one.

I know the issues with Radeon are not caused by driver/software because I keep the it updated.

One reminder, I use this for my work PC though not carputer. But I thought I'd give you some kind of ideas before you make your selection.

Bear in mind the via card needs a PCI card not AGP, so your choices are limited.

Something like this would be ideal: http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...139-144&depa=1

definately. do you think the Geforce is better than say the Radeon 8500?

i really hope i can get the VIA to work as i don't want to waste money on restocking fees and i already have a wireless PC card that will plug right in the VIA motherboard.

i was looking at on of those FX5200 PCI but it recommended a 250w power supply. i wonder if i could get away with the OPUS 150?
