Via Epia M1000 still the "one"?

Ok, im about to start buying the stuff for my car now.
And the M1000 seems to be the best choice, but....

They are releasing some new motherboards (here) and im wondering if anyone of those are a better choice than the M1000?
Only one i think i can get hold of now is the MII...

I believe the MII is the newer version or upgrade to the M10000. If I was just starting a project I would probably go with the MII (assuming I decided to go with a via).

The M10000 is 1ghz, the MII is 1.2ghz and has a compact flash slot on board. I would look around the "show off your project" section and see what the newly completed projects are sporting.

Actually the MII is available in 3 versions:
600mhz fanless
1ghz (MII10000)
1.2 ghz (MII12000)
It adds a compact flash card slot AND a PCMCIA slot.

Other than that, they are the same board. I have the MII10000 and I love it. Having the PCMCIA slot is great for a wi-fi card.

I'm shooting for the PD10000, I can use the extra serial ports (I've seen problems with USB->serial adapters).

I'm waiting on the US release of the EPIA SP. It's a 1.3ghz processor and will be able to utilize PC3200 RAM instead of PC2700 like all the other VIA boards out right now.

I was told to expect to be able to purchase it in Dec. by a VIA retailer. I think it's worth the wait personally.

did the retailer mention expected price range?

220 bucks for the 1.3 SP is what I heard. I want it too. I couldn't wait, so I got a ME6000 that will be recycled for another project once the SP is out.

Faster RAM, hardware encoding MPG2 (not hardware acceleration), among many other things. MPG4 hardware acceleration. Loses printer port, still has one com port and one on header, horizontal audio connector pack. I can't wait for it.

Is there any reason that I cannot user PC 3200 DDR in a board that supports 2700 (without the speed benifit of the 3200 of course) my thinking is that if i get a used board or cheaper board for now and want to replace it down the road with the SP I dont want to have to rebuy the ram as well.

Occasionally some boards not rated for faster speed have issues, but most of the time faster ram should be OK. I think others have used faster ram on VIA mobos without trouble. I'm sure those that have will post.
