Thread: Is my XMPCR a paperweight?! Sorry to ask...

    Is my XMPCR a paperweight?! Sorry to ask...

    I have read many threads about the XMPCR being discontinued and of course all of the big news about the cable to interface with the XMDirect Commander or whatever... but I am just curious... is the XMPCR completely dead in the water? I mean, I bought my XMPCR several months ago (if not a year ago!) and have NEVER activated service on it. Will XM activate this unit or is it just a worthless paperweight? I have read the many threads out there from start to finish but haven't seen an answer to my question... so please don't tell me to search... Thanks in advance.

    Thanks for the speedy reply Frodo... I guess the big downside of it is the lack of integration with Frodoplayer, right? Are there any further advantages to the new option other than future plans to be integrated with Frodoplayer and MediaCar? Just curious. Thanks again for the reply and no baggin on my for asking that simple but possible stupid question. Later!

    What do you mean lack of integration, FrodoPlayer fully supports the XM PCR and the XM Direct.

    Oh boy... don't I feel stupid! lol I guess in my hectic life, I missed that support... I am however only running the ORIGINAL version of Frodoplayer on my home PC... havne't even set my carPC up completely on the bench yet. Well thats WONDERFUL news! Thanks! (please excuse me while I go hide my face in embarrassment)...

    Hello. I was considering scrapping my roady and buying an XMDirect unit by Terk. Part of the Web site selling them states and additional control unit (Sony) needs to be bought to interface with the head unit. since I don't plan on using any head unit, can I skip this control unit and connect the Terk XMDirect straight to the carputer and use it with Frodoplayer?
