    Post LCD mount

I was thinking of places I could mount an LCD in a tacoma truck. The only idea I had was puttling a piece of plastic, or thin metal under the lip of the dash board that stuck out over where the radio and vents and stuff are. Make this just big enough to screw my LCD onto. HAs anyone ever tried or thought about this?? Also how do most people mopunt them to there dashes?

I have two things to say:

    1. Every install is different, depending on the LCD, the car that it is being installed to, and the installers preferances.

    2. Have a browse through the 'expamples of mp3cars' archive back at the main page, and also the mp3car webring (under links on the main page)

And that is all i have to say about that.

    HunterC4,
While I'm not in the web ring or in the examples on mp3car.com, you might have a look at my in dash LCD install. I don't know if it will apply to your truck, but perhaps you'll get some ideas out of it.

I mounted a 16 x 4 in my console behind a piece of clear plastic, I masked the display area and sprayed the rest black. You could mount one just about anywhere by doing something like this.

    Destin,
I love ur LCD mount. The only thing is I definatly can't afford a LCDVGA and I dont like how the passenger doesn't have a good view. Also , You have a system capable of doing much more than MP3. Why dont u add a DVD drive and GPS??

    Hello HunterC4,
There is already a DVD drive in the PowerBook, but I have been looking into adding a convenient drive up front. I have found small USB DVD drives, but I'm not so sure USB can handle a DVD so well.... I continue to look for a Firewire version. GPS is a definite future addition. As for the passenger view - I'm not getting any complaints... I prefer it a little low so that it isn't visible to others on the road, especially officers with attitudes!

Destin : Your setup kicks ! looks great.
I must say Im no fan of mac's, but I gota give you credit.

I saw you mention USB-DvD , and we might have gone over this in another post, but I just want to save you some time/trouble.

Theoreticaly its possible, but when it comes to reality, usb just isnt fast enough to push the 11 - 14 Mbps needed for a smooth dvd signal. I think firewire is your best bet.... or SCSI. I use SCSI for mine. does a power book have onboard scsi?

Hey just found a link for a firewire dvd -

Gizmomkr - thanks for the link to the firewire DVD drive. I was hoping to find a slot loading drive so I could mount it in dash as clean as possible. I might consider mounting a drawer type drive in the glovebox somehow... but I don't know
I REALLY like the idea of a slot loading drive under the LCD - that way friends could pop in a CD they want to hear - very convenient.

Chances are if you crack open this firewire drive - inside you will find its actually a std. IDE drive. you could e-bay the tray loader, and but a slot loading dvd for about 60.00.

Here is also a company that sells empy firewire cases - they have a connector w/ power supply for an IDE drive on the inside, and a firewire connector on the back.

If your puting it into the dash, I would say :
Gut the case, all you need is the controler board - connect it to the drive, you should be able to come up with a nice looking way to mount it if your toss the enclosure.
like I said, it will just have IDE at one end, and firewire at the other.

PS: I dont work for CDW or anything, I just have a sales guy there that give me good prices, and they have EVERYTHING I need.
