    Cool

Well, I would still recommend the thermal grease and rain. It'll keep the temperatures down, which is always nice.

I guess it depends on what you are trying to do in your car. My 233 with 64Megs ram plays MP3s and runs the GPS simultaneously.

However it would really bog down with some of those fancy visuals y'all are putting on the monitor. (I can't hardly run the one that comes with winamp 2.67)

Speaking of that the one I like best so far is the default one on Win Mediaplayer 7. (I am sure there is one like that for winamp)

I ran my Celeron 300A on an Abit BH6 @ 464 MHz in the car for about 6 months and had no problems, even with very little cooling other than the cpu fan and heatsink.

personally I would keep that to the desktops, and even then if your not a games junkie then why would you bother.... I would rather my PC's are stable than hot and tempremental......

espically with the heat the car interiror can reach, overclocking should be the furtherest from your minds... !

Well, in my case, the cpu could hit 504 with good cooling...But at 464 it was completely stable, the only reason I ran it so high was to play the Final Burn emulator a lil' bit better

This isnt necessicarily true for an older, slower chip like a Classic Athlon, but on newer chips, the programs that get around the registers in the bios can actually cause your machine to be more unstable, because of the large power demand of swinging from completely idle to full load (which is why a lot of motherboards don't allow a chip to reach "idle temperatures." And getting even further off topic, if your computer is sitting idle, you might as well turn it off I guess I never saw the point of trying to get the lowest idle temperature possible. Then again, none of my machines ever idle, they all genome @100% load 24/7.

And this winter, i probably could have overclocked my duron significantly (as it wasnt uncomon to boot the machine, and have mbm reading -5C for the cpu ).

I also have my T-Bird overclocked from 1 to 1.2ghz.. The extra fans you have aren't nescisary.. I have no extra fans... only the standard PS and 6cm CPU one, and the system is quite stable.... The heatsink/fan is just a cheap one (for upto a 1.5ghz I think) and the cpu runs @ about 52degrees celcius.... not too hot...

I OC'd my duron 650 to 900 with just a nice heafty heatsink and a good highspeed fan (not sure of the brand, someone gave them to me)

It ran stable and under 38C(100F) when idle and never got over 50C(125F) when it was cranking.

That fan was a noisy little thing. Still using that cpu (i ordered a tbird 1.4 but it shorted x.x) with a volcano 5 and it's fine and runs fairly cool.

mp3car system is currently FUBAR and finances do not allow for a correction of that situation

yes myne is overclocked and yes I have a good reason to,
my processor is a pentium 75mhz, by overclocking to 100mhz I gained only a small amount of additional heat that was more than taken care of by my case and substantally inproved the performance of my system. I am running winamp on windows 95 with an lcd plugin. My system has been rock stable and I have had no problems out of it.

At my lvl overclocking was a great improvement however if your already running 500mhz then i doubt that you will see much improvemet.

But yes it has been done
