I dont know if theres a plugin for winamp out there (ie keypad that will allow you to shell other programs, but it should be possible to locate one) It may be that it has got to be a keypad program and not a plugin due to the problems of sharing your soundcard.

Does anyone have any experience with that on older soundcards ??. it should work on the sb live card because it has several virtual sound cards and mixes the sound (i think) it will handle more than one program playing sounds ...

However you will have a problem in controlling your software this way ...

hmm .. how do you plan to navigate such a system, by mouse keyboard etc ??

You may be able to utilize a menu system and launch that as your program controller.

To answer your question in a more direct fashion it is possible to set the shell to something other than the explorer and have this program launch your gps / dvd software

Without having checked, i would assume that it should be possible to locate a decent menu program on one of the many shareware sites around ..

Unfortunately i dont think that the designs will be quite as neat ...

Im actually a programmer but my abillities when it comes to the grafic side is VERY tiny

A menu program as the one you refer to is easy to make.

There is however one thing i would like to know ... what happens if you choose to use both winamp, the dvd and the gps system ... how would that work ???

should yu use the minimize button (very tiny when your driving around) .... or should the menubar be more like the microsoft office bar ...

The best solution to to multi tasking with GPS and winamp that i found is using IRassistant. It supports the IRMAN and you can practically make any remote button do anything a keyboard + mouse would do. You just program in all the movements necessary. I have alt+tab programmed on one of the buttons so i can use GPS while also listening to mp3 and control winamp functions without losing focus on the gps window. Abcd's cobra II app will do this also but he hasn't finished coding yet =) so till then the solution i have is irassistant ( i think guirder also works) look in the www.evation.com/software section and you will find links for all ir related apps. As far as a bookpc goes...the big prob with these things is that it has no serial ports which means...no gps and no remote control. unless you get a usb to serial adapter which costs tons. perhaps you can use the X10 remote i am not sure about this but i think it allows you to utilize a ps/2 port or a serial port. it could be that it uses both hehe but look into it Hunter.

    Question

Y'all are so much help Thanx a lot. As far as the bookPC without serial ports goes I have found a PS/2 to Serial adaptor at walmart for $4. But I have been thinking and I may not go with the BookPC just because they are so pricey. It depends how much the prices go down by christmas time if any. When I get the GPS Im actually hooking my Garmin handheld up to my computer and just using it as an antenna and getting Streets and Trips. But i think im going to get a one PS/2 to 2 PS/2 adaptor so i can hookup the keyboard and leave it under my seat and the IRMan and a touchpad for the GPS If I need it. Where can Iget a small cheap touchpad? Anyone know? Also I was thinking of hookin up a timer out of the radio shack catalog on the power line from the battery to power inverter so when I got out the car I copuld just press the computer power button and the timer button so the comp would have time to shutdown and then the power inverter would go off. Im guessing the timer has an on and off button so when i got in the car i could turn it off. And how would I make the big bklack On/Off cable longer on the Computer so I could run it to the dash?? I know it's a lot of questions so thanx.
