i have a computer tower with a button on the front for start/shutdown, when i push the button the computer will soft shutdown. my question is, would i somehow be able to hook this button up with a relay and a vehicals acc. port to control start and shutdown when the car is turned on/off?

yes but the diff between my idea and an opus is o about..... 400$
look up 'pulse relay' and the various startup shutdown controllers. There is one in a remote laptop startup/shutdown thread
