    Started my project! (pics)

Nothing flashy here, no VGA screens or anything, just a Crystalfontz 4X20 parallel LCD. I've got a small USB numeric keypad coming in the mail, very similar to the one on the right hand side of your keyboards to control markuszehnder's LCD plugin.

The computer is the bones of a P3 1Ghz laptop. It's been hanging around with no use for about 2 years now so I decided to give it a job! Intel Speedstep software set for low power will keep cpu power drain to a minimum. It's got a 20 Gb hard drive, and wireless network for easy updates while I'm in my room. 5V Power for the LCD is taken from the USB port

One question for any of you using a character LCD, are there any other plugins similar to markus'? Either I can't figure it out or there's no feature to rebuild my playlist after I add songs to my computer.

Here are some quick shots after I got it working last night.

Sweet. I can't wait to see your install. I've got a 95 850 GLT wagon that I'm about to get started on. I'm buying the Lilly today

We should keep in touch for install ideas. The 940 isn't much different is it?

What a complete waste. Get a screen. You won't regret it.

That's an old crappy shot of the interior, but it gives a basic idea of what it's like, kinda similar but the 940 has less dash space.

I wanted to do a vga install, but I don't have the funds now. I spent all my car fun money tearing out the auto and installing a manual trans.

This system is going in my winter car for now, a 90 740 sedan, but in the spring when I've got some money I want to install a VGA screen in the 940. Either in the sun visor, or preferably mounted in the dash where the radio and the pocket is, mainly for gps.

Found out today that the computer will run off of 12V dc, so I won't have to find a DC - DC power supply.

That's what I plan on doing. Although I'm entertaining the idea of buying a dash on eBay and seeing if I can somhow mount the LCD facing down to the airducks on the top of the dash and having a motor tilt it up 90 degrees when the rem lead activates it. What do you think? Is it possible, too much sunlight? I need to get a tint job too!

I've changed my mind already, lol!

I'm going to go with a VGA screen mounted in the lower dash, screw trying to run this thing with that LCD, it's a pain in the ***, and it's not even in the car yet, haha. I'll just mount it somewhere displaying system info or something.

rajah: definately try out some tint. My 940 has been tinted for a few years and I hate driving without it, it feels like I'm too out in the open for everyone to see, and it makes the car look so much nicer.

DON'T cheap out on it though! I did and I regret it! I bought cheap *** tint from auto zone and it started to fade and turn purple not even a year later. Now I have to rip it all off and I'm going to go get some quality stuff and do it right.

And on a side note. VNC ROCKS! I can't believe such a great piece of remote connectivity software is made available for free!
