    Post Is it my soundcard?

I am getting a hum, a dead-air fuzz sound. Not the grounding buzz. I get the fuzz when the machine is on but not playing music as well as when the machine's volume is low...

I was wondering if any of you believe it is b/c of a crappy sound card... one w/o a lineout.

Looking for a 2nd opinion before i buy a new soundcard that I might not need to.

If it is like background noise, it sounds like it could be a gain structure issue. Where do you have the volume set on the computer? Somewhere in the audio chain, a gain is cranked up, probably all the way. Whenever possible, gain settings should be near the halfway point for the best sound quality.

Well, I am using a dos player so the only volume i control (that I know of) is via my mp3 software (mpxf). in my car setting mpxf to 10% is LOUD. and at lower volumes i hear the fuzz sound. I also hear the fuzz sound if the machine is not currently playing. If that means anything...the sound card is real bad too... so i want to upgrade but i want to get a good one for use within dos. (hence my other post).
