Well, when it's plugged into the usb port, the little green light turns on... but it does have an externally powered port as well that I haven't used. Here's a pic:

that hole on the bottom right is an AC adaptor plug

Could my problem lie with lack of power to my peripherals? I do have 4 things plugged in... my slimline dvdrom via IDE 2 USB adaptor, griffin powermate, digimoto OBD reader w/ serial 2 USB adaptor (but this is powered by my car i believe... except the actual adaptor), and finally the TS itself.

Yeah, if it's a USB 2.0 adaptor its recommended that it be powered.

Give it a shot and see if it helps your issue.

Just run it from the Opus, there are both 12V and 5v lines in there.

yea, I'm just worried that I might be at my wattage limits with the Opus, and fitting another line up to the front of the car...

they got 12v->5V converters.. don't remember the name, search and you'll find.. cheap too. And can easily handle the juice a hub will throw at it.

I have pretty much the same situation and the same problem. 4 port USB 2.0 hub in the front with touch panel (Lilliput), GPS, keyboard/mouse receiver, and Sound Blaster connected. Sometimes the touch panel will not work when booting but the other devices work fine. If I unplug the touch panel from the hub and plug it back in it works fine (no reboot needed). I was thinking that maybe all of the devices initializing at the same time is drawing enough current to cause an intermittent problem. My plan right now is to delay power to one or more of the devices to see if this fixes the problem. Like bulgogi777, I don't want to have to run more cable than I already have.

hmm... how do you plan on delaying power to your usb devices?

    quick update,

I went ahead and hooked up 5V from my opus to the usb hub, and I still get the TS problem very very frustrating!! I'm thinking of splicing into the usb cable, and putting a switch in there, so I can easily disconnect/connect the TS to get it working properly.

question: which line in the usb cable would I want to switch, or would I have to switch all of them?

i wish they swaped the usb to serial for the touchscreen, i only get this problem when my pc gets rebooted when the power is low, the TS wont work, i have to turn the pc of unplug the TS, boot the PC up then off again, then plug the TS in and power it up, and it works. rest of the time it works properly, i even have it pluged into a USB 4 port hub up front with my GPS mouse pluged in too.
