6 months ago I installed a BookPC in my Eclipse to use as a headunit. Once I got the initial bugs worked out, it worked great up until a couple of weeks ago when all my CDs started skipping. Currently, the only thing on the harddrive is Win95 and Winamp. All the music is burned onto CD.
The thing is, the CD doesn't skip only when I hit bumps. I could be crusing down the freeway at a smooth, regular speed and it will still skip. When it does skip, it's not like a regular CD player where the music will continue after a couple of seconds. It happens like a broken record, repeating the same second of music over and over again. During this time I can't do anything but power the computer off (winamp is frozen).
Could this be the sign of a failing CD-Rom?
Thanks,

First, clean the laser using a laser cleaning kit from kmart (it's a CD with little brushes on it)
Second, if that didn't work, clean it manually.
If that doesn't work it (the laser) may need changing.
Not too sure about this so please correct me if I'm wrong.

Any chance that your processor is overheating? Computers will do funny things when that happens. You may want to make sure there are no cables interfering with the fan.
