    Formatting my additional HD

I've got an additional HD in my pc, it,s a 30 Gig drive. I allready formatted it. When I check the files on it, it is empty (like it should be). When I check the properties on it, it says: used space 28.3 gigs, and 4.99 free space. How do I "unconditionally" format and empty this drive?:

Ok i am not sure if you want to format it completly. IF you do Go to control panel. Then to Administrative Tools. next to computer management. THen on the left and side should be disk management click on there. and then just right right click on the drive you want to format and then click format..

block size, system files, recycle bin all have their part to play in nibbling away at space.

from the command prompt, your unconditional format command is:

    FORMAT /U d:

@kickercivic, did that, now under properties it says: 0 free and 0 used (space)
@grepzen, doing that now, says: verifying 5145 Mb ..% formatting.
Now the formatting is complete: says: 5269288 total space and 5240516 available.

Tried what both of u said, check properties and now it says the same as my 1st posted picture. I don't get it, u can see that it's a 30 gig drive. Any other ideas?

I can't see that. Looks like a 5 gig drive to me, with 28.3 megs taken and 4.99 gigs free.

how big is your primary drive and how old is your motherboard? also check the jumpers on the drive sometimes they have a special jumper that limits the size

or like he said, you just have a very small partition on it, you should be able to see how big the drive is and how big the partition is by going to disk management under computer management

@jjh: I might do that, disconnect the master, put in a boot and format it that way.
@Rob: yeah, I see that now, I "know" this is a 30Gig. This is the drive that came on this HP, bought about 2 years ago. I filled it up, so about I bought a 60Gig which is now my primary/master drive. I used this second drive as a backup device. I'm gonna take it out now and check it.
Thanks for all your help, I'll let ya know what happens...
