Remote starts using "tach sense" look for a voltage level to be reached on the tachometer wire. The wire uses AC current, not DC. When that range of voltage is reached, it ceases to crank. This also allows you to press your remote start button when the car is already started and then remove the key and leave the car running when you want to run in somewhere. I worked at the local stereo shop for almost 2 years and installed several alarms/remote starts.

I've got a pager alarm. It uses RPM sense, it's got a wire that taps into the coil. In order to duplicate that by a DIY circuit, you'd need to measure the pulses from the coil and shuts it off when it reaches over ~500 RPM. Lots more work than it should be. You'll probably also need to power the ignition circuit as well as the starter itself, in order for it to start.

Also, my alarm has two choices for unmanned remote start. One is auto-start every hour to four hours, for a 24 hour period, or when the temp drops below a set temp. My alarm also has an input trigger wire for the remote start. If I supply power to the trigger wire, it'll automatically start the vehicle.

    Good luck,

    Kris
